Graduate Peer Mentor Program
The Graduate Peer Mentor Program aims to help new students make the transition into university life as smoothly as possible, by providing a support network, opportunities to meet new people and a forum in which to ask other students questions.
The program runs through the first four weeks of semester.
Mentoring partnerships include the Mentor, who is an experienced graduate student who has volunteered to share their experiences, and the Mentee, who has newly commenced a program of study in the Graduate School of Business and Economics.
What happens in a Mentoring meeting?
Meetings usually occur once a week for the first four weeks of each semester. During these meetings Mentors are able to show their Mentees around the Faculty and University facilities. They can also provide useful information on living and studying in Melbourne, such as:
- what is expected of graduate students in the Faculty of Business and Economics
- where to access help with academic work (your Mentor cannot give you academic assistance)
- what to do in Melbourne and where to meet new friends
Who are Mentors?
Being experienced students, Mentors are not only a great source of information and a sounding board for questions and concerns, but they are also a friend. The Graduate Peer Mentoring program provides new students with a chance to get to know other students in the Faculty and to perhaps begin lasting friendships!
